Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This small French Rococo settee from 1930 is styled in the French Chateau taste with a corbeille curved back and cabriole legs. The walnut frame has a warm honey timber tone, accented by carved floral cresting along the top rail and finished with a row of dark metal upholstery tacks outlining the edges. The seat cushion and backrest are covered in sage green fabric patterned with tiny white motifs, complete with neat piping around the cushion edge. Practical dimensions of 90 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 72 cm deep, with a seat height of 45 cm, make this two-seater piece ideal for placement in a compact living room, bedroom, or dressing area as a graceful seating option.

FAQs

Louis XV seating is characterised by fluid, asymmetrical curves, exposed timber frames, cabriole legs, and delicate floral or foliate carvings. Emerging in mid-eighteenth-century France, these pieces emphasised comfort, intimacy, and elegant proportions suitable for salon entertaining.

Traditional French settees feature solid hardwood frames, commonly carved from beech, walnut, or fruitwood. The internal upholstery typically relies on jute webbing, hand-tied coil springs, horsehair filling, and fine fabrics such as silk damask, brocade, or velvet.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-carved joinery, peg construction, and uneven tool marks along unexposed frame areas. Original frames often show subtle wear on the feet and scrollwork, accompanied by hand-hammered upholstery tacks along the borders.

A compact French settee functions well as a focal piece in a bedroom alcove, dressing room, or formal entrance hall. Pairing its ornate, curved wooden silhouette with minimalist contemporary lighting or sleek modern side tables creates an engaging aesthetic balance.

Keep the timber frame clean by dusting with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax. To protect delicate upholstery fabrics from fading or structural degradation, position the piece away from direct sunlight and high-heat sources.
