Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow set of drawers traditionally featuring a hinged locking stile on the right side that secures all the drawers at once. Popular during the 19th century, this design originated in Britain and was named after the Duke of Wellington.

These chests are typically constructed from a pine or mahogany carcass and veneered with highly figured burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and a locking mechanism operated via a key.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional secondary timbers like oak or pine inside the drawers, and natural ageing in the veneer and hardware. The locking mechanism should operate smoothly with the hinged side bar moving freely when unlocked.

A Wellington chest serves as an excellent space-saving storage solution in a bedroom, study, or hallway due to its narrow footprint. Pair it with minimalist contemporary decor to let the rich grain of the wood stand out as a focal point.

Protect antique walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent the veneer from fading and drying out. Maintain a stable room temperature, avoid placing hot or wet items on the surface, and occasionally apply a quality wax to nourish the timber.
