221 X 448cm Antique Ushak or Oushak Carpet

1900 - 1920
Description

The gorgeous apple green field has a widely spaced design of large pink flowers with leaves, stems and border in a lighter, lime green. It's a very effective, decorative combination and over the years I've had only a few with this winning combination. They usually sell themselves quite quickly although this one has a very unusual size, being long and slightly narrow.

Evenly worn allover, professionally restored, now clean ready for your floor.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large hand-knotted wool carpet originates from the Anatolian region and dates from 1900, reflecting an English Country House style. The piece measures 448 cm high by 221 cm wide and adopts an unusual long, narrow format. It displays an olive green field patterned with salmon pink geometric medallions and star motifs, complemented by a yellow patterned border guard, fringed edges, and subtle surface wear. Suitable for placement on the floor in a principal living room, hallway or dining area, the rug provides a practical soft floor covering with professional restoration while remaining clean and ready for immediate domestic use.

FAQs

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Turkey, renowned since the Ottoman era for their distinctive large-scale floral and geometric motifs, soft muted colour palettes, and relaxed weave.

Authentic Oushak carpets are hand-knotted using high-quality wool spun on a wool or cotton foundation, coloured with natural plant-based dyes.

Authentic pieces feature symmetrical Ghiordes knots, a supple texture, subtle colour variation in the yarn known as abrash, and characteristic tones such as sage green, terracotta, and soft pink.

A green Oushak carpet grounds neutral decorative schemes, pairing effectively with dark wood furniture, neutral linen upholstery, or contemporary brass accents.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beat-bar, rotate the rug annually to balance wear, address spills immediately with gentle spot cleaning, and use a professional rug cleaner specialising in antique textiles.
