This is a museum piece that I've brought out of my personal collection to pass on to a passionate collector who appreciates such amazing flatweaves. The sofreh, which is complete with beautiful brocaded skirts, incorporates a small tree design throughout the central field with highlights of silk and metal thread.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A sofreh is a traditional woven spread or cloth used by nomadic and village tribes in Persia primarily for serving meals or preparing bread, functioning as both a utility item and a textile of cultural significance.

These pieces are typically handwoven from handspun wool using flatweave techniques such as soumak or kilim, often incorporating natural dyes derived from plants and minerals.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the irregularity of handspun wool, the character of natural dyes, tribal-specific geometric motifs, and structural wear consistent with age and nomadic use.

Such textiles are frequently displayed as wall hangings to protect the fragile weave from foot traffic while highlighting the intricate tribal patterns as focal art pieces.

Preservation requires gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodic professional textile cleaning.
