This pair of 19th-century Chinese Qing Dynasty vases is cast from bronze with a dark brown finish and rich patina. Each vase displays a wide dished rim, a flared foot, beast head handles on the sides, and detailed high-relief dragon motifs encircling the main body. The surface shows visible age wear consistent with the period, alongside fine mouldings and turning. Measuring 13 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, the pair weighs 1.3 kg. Placed on a mantelpiece in a gentleman's library or a study, these vases serve as striking decorative objects. The solid bronze construction and traditional motifs suit display on a desk, a bookshelf, or a side table in a period-styled interior. Each vase stands firmly on its flat circular base, ready for placement in a home.

FAQs

Late Qing dynasty bronzes frequently feature relief casting depicting mythical creatures such as dragons and Qilin, paired with stylized cloud or wave borders and ornate animal-head handles.

These vessels were cast from bronze alloys containing copper, tin, and lead, then detailed with hand-chased surface decoration and natural dark patination.

Authentic pieces display distinct surface wear, traces of lost-wax casting or hand-tooling marks, natural oxidisation within recessed details, and substantial weight appropriate to cast metal.

Position them as a symmetrical pair on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to introduce historical texture and sculptural grounding to a room scheme.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemical polishes that remove aged patina; a light coat of microcrystalline wax can be applied to protect the surface.
