This matching pair of large 19th-century Chinese gilt bronze baluster vases originates from the late Qing Dynasty period. The vessels are rendered in gold and bronze with a polished finish and feature flared rims, rounded shoulders, and tapered bases. Each vase is decorated with a high-relief carved three-toed dragon encircled by swirling cloud scrolls across the main body. The pieces show minor age-related blemishes and a natural patina on the metal surface. Together, the pair stands 25 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, with a combined weight of 4.8 kg. These ornamental vases suit placement on a sideboard top within a gentleman's library or a formal living room setting. The heavy metal construction provides stability for display as standalone decorative objects or paired focal points on a tabletop surface.

During the late Qing period, bronze vessels featuring high-relief dragon motifs were produced for both domestic display and export markets. The dragon symbolises power, authority, and good fortune in traditional Chinese iconography.

These vessels were typically cast using the lost-wax process, after which intricate dragon and cloud motifs were hand-chased into the metal. A mercury gilding process or metallic wash was then applied to create a lustrous gold finish.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-chased details with slight irregularities, substantial physical weight due to solid cast metal, and natural signs of age-appropriate patination or wear to the gilded layer in high-contact areas.

A pair of bronze vases can serve as symmetrical anchors on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table. Placing them against neutral backgrounds allows the metallic lustre and detailed relief carvings to serve as architectural focal points.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush to prevent dust accumulation in carved recesses. Avoid chemical polishes, abrasives, or excessive moisture, as these can strip historical gilding and delicate surface patination.
