Victorian iron and brass beds gained popularity during the Industrial Revolution due to advances in metal casting and sanitary movements that favoured metal over wood for hygiene.

These beds typically combine rigid cast iron frames with malleable wrought iron components and polished brass finials, rails, and decorative accents.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-poured iron joints, threaded components, maker stamps, and signs of age such as minor pitting or oxidisation beneath modern paint finishes.

An antique metal bed pairs well with neutral linen bedding, minimalist bedside tables, and contemporary lighting to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Keep the metal clean using a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive chemical cleaners on painted surfaces, and apply specialised metal polish sparingly to unlacquered brass elements.
