This Victorian bedstead is formed from cast iron, wrought iron, and brass with a satin black hand-finished surface and highlighted gold-coloured details. The design incorporates a headboard and a footboard, both displaying arched top rails, central circular medallions, and intricate cast filigree inserts with floral motifs. The framework includes turned metal joints and stands on four upright legs ending in small rounded feet. This piece measures 130 cm high, 137 cm wide, and 200 cm deep, and accepts a standard double size mattress. Placed within a bedroom, this bedstead serves as a functional sleeping structure. It is suited for daily use while adding a nineteenth-century aesthetic to domestic interiors. The construction accommodates a platform base and a mattress to create a complete sleeping arrangement for the home.

Victorian iron bedsteads emerged during the nineteenth century as a hygienic, durable alternative to wooden frames, characteristically featuring cast decorative joints, iron tubing, and elaborate scrollwork.

These frames were constructed using wrought iron tubing joined by cast iron fixtures, frequently accented with brass components or detailed metal castings poured directly onto the iron frame.

Authentic period examples feature heavy cast iron corner joints known as dovetails, hand-poured casting marks, and original iron side rails designed to slot directly into the posts.

Pair the dark structural lines of the iron frame with crisp white linen or layered textured bedding to create contrast within traditional, rustic, or modern bedroom schemes.

Clean the iron frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a thin coat of clear wax to protect exposed metal from oxidisation, and avoid abrasive cleaners that strip historic finishes.
