FAQs

A bachelors chest is a compact, multi-functional furniture form originating in the early 18th century, typically featuring a fold-over top or sliding shelf designed for writing or grooming.

Authentic pieces are predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and traditional tongue-and-groove backboards.

Authentication relies on examining timber shrinkage, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, tool marks from hand planes, and natural oxidisation within the secondary woods.

This versatile item functions effectively as a compact bedside table or a statement storage piece in a hallway, contrasting clean modern lines with historic warmth and texture.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodically applying traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
