Antique Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers

1900 - 1920
Description

A wonderful antique inlaid mahogany chest of drawers in the Georgian style. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1920’s period.

This is one of a matched pair that we have, they are identical in shape and size, with slightly different inlaid designs and handles. The price shown is for one chest.

It is of very fine quality, it is a very useful smallish size and has a beautiful design. It sits on splayed bracket feet, has lovely brass handles and gorgeous inlaid satin wood around the cross banded top and drawer fronts. The drawers all run smoothly, this has lots of storage space. The mahogany has an absolutely gorgeous colour tone and patina.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, these chests feature structured geometric proportions, flame mahogany veneers, and fine string inlay bordering the drawer fronts.

Craftspeople typically utilised solid mahogany framing with cut veneers, hand-jointed dovetail drawers, pressed brass oval backplate handles, and boxwood or satinwood stringing.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn drawer bottoms, hand-cut dovetail joinery with minor size variations, original steel locks, and genuine oxidisation on the timber and brassware.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway or bedroom, pairing its warm timber tones with contemporary artwork, modern table lamps, or neutral woven textiles.

Dust regularly with a dry microfiber cloth, apply a beeswax polish once or twice per year following the wood grain, and keep the piece away from direct radiators or damp conditions.
