This Japanese Meiji period cloisonne vase by Ando dates from 1900 and displays a white ground with detailed green and blue enamel decoration. The body shows an early morning spring scene featuring a traditional house and pagodas set among a mountainous landscape, interspersed with trees, while the neck carries a border of blue cloud motifs and flowers. Both the upper rim and the foot rim are mounted in silver, and the base displays a decorative geometric band. Standing at 30 cm high, the piece presents a smooth, glossy finish typical of fine enamelwork, with visible metal wirework outlining the pictorial design elements. Practical for placement on a mantelpiece in a gentleman's library, this vessel adds a sophisticated decorative accent to an interior tabletop display.

Japanese cloisonne, known locally as shippo-yaki, is an art form where glass enamel paste is applied into metal-bordered compartments or blended onto metal bodies before being fired and polished to a smooth finish.

These vases typically feature a copper or silver base body, silver wire outlines forming design compartments, and layered vitreous enamel glazes finished with solid silver rim and foot mounts.

Authentic Ando pieces frequently bear an engraved or stamped maker mark on the silver foot rim or base, high-grade silver fittings, and precise enamel execution with smooth graduations of tone.

Position the vase on a focal mantelpiece, console, or within a glass display cabinet to contrast structured contemporary lines with historical Asian decorative craftsmanship.

Dust gently using a clean, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion in water or chemical polishers, as moisture can compromise metal seams and damage vintage enamel finishes.
