This 19th-century William IV sideboard comes in dark red-brown flame mahogany with solid pine dovetailed drawer construction, brass keyhole escutcheons, and brass handles. The surface measures 122.5 cm wide by 58.5 cm deep, standing 115 cm high overall with a surface height of 90.5 cm. The late Regency piece has a bow-fronted top with an upstand featuring scroll carving, flanked by decorative inlaid side supports. Three drawers sit beneath the top surface, detailed with cockbeaded flame mahogany fronts, while the front legs are spiral turned and rope twisted. Practical for dining rooms or hallways, the furniture item provides storage surfaces and drawer space for tableware, linens, or hallway accessories. The showroom condition displays clean timber grain and polished surfaces suitable for formal or traditional interiors.

The William IV period, spanning from 1830 to 1837, marks a transition between Regency elegance and Victorian ornamentation. Furniture from this era is recognised by robust proportions, prominent scrollwork, reeded or spiral-turned legs, and the extensive use of flame mahogany veneers.

Sideboards of this period were primarily constructed from solid pine or oak carcases veneered with cuts of mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Drawer linings were frequently made of oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails, and fitted with solid brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand craftwork, including irregular hand-cut dovetails, original lock mechanisms, and uneven timber shrinkage on non-visible surfaces. Veneers on genuine period items are typically thicker than modern equivalents and exhibit natural oxidisation.

A dark mahogany sideboard pairs well with modern neutral plaster or mineral wall finishes to create a strong silhouette. Incorporating clean-lined contemporary artwork, understated ceramics, or modern table lamps creates balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and colour fading.
