Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian walnut campaign travelling desk exhibits a warm brown timber colour with a polished finish and stands upon a folding X-frame base. The structure includes curved legs terminating in scrolling feet, a rectangular panelled front on the upper cabinet, and horizontal turned stretcher bars linking the folding supports. The piece measures 96 cm high, 62 cm wide, and 38 cm deep when closed, expanding to a height of 78 cm and a depth of 62 cm when opened. Inside, the desk contains a maroon leather writing surface and fitted compartments suited for travel and correspondence. Designed in the gentleman's library style, the portable desk functions well in a study or as a distinctive accent piece in an empty corner of a sitting room.

FAQs

A campaign travelling desk is a portable writing station designed for military officers and travellers during the 19th century. These pieces feature folding mechanisms or compact constructions to allow easy transport and setup while travelling.

Victorian campaign furniture was primarily constructed from durable hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and teak. They frequently incorporated brass fittings, hinged mechanisms, and folding trestle or X-frame bases designed to withstand travel.

Authentic Victorian campaign desks typically feature flush-mounted hardware, folding or collapsible frames, hand-cut joinery, and evidence of historical wear consistent with portable use.

Position the desk as an occasional writing spot or accent piece in a hallway, bedroom alcove, or study. Its compact footprint allows it to function effectively in smaller spaces alongside classic or modern seating.

Maintain antique walnut by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying beeswax polish periodically to protect the finish. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent wood movement.
