Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ladik prayer rugs originate from the Ladik region in Central Anatolia, Turkey, a major centre for rug weaving during the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were woven specifically to define a clean devotional space for prayer, incorporating symbolic architectural motifs like the mihrab niche.

Traditional Anatolian prayer rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the foundation. The wool is dyed using vegetable and mineral-based dyes, producing deep madder reds, indigo blues, and natural cream tones.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical hand-knotted construction, natural abrash colour variations from plant dyes, and specific regional motifs such as stepped arched niches or inverted tulip panels above the field. Slight irregularities in the weaving and selvage borders also indicate handcraftsmanship.

Antique prayer rugs can be displayed as wall hangings using specialized mounting strips to protect the warp threads, layered over larger neutral flat-weave carpets, or placed in quiet reading corners and study spaces to highlight their geometric design.

Keep wool carpets out of direct sunlight to prevent natural dye fading, and place them on a high-quality rug pad to reduce fibre tension. Vacuum gently using a suction-only attachment without a rotary beater bar, and consult a specialist textile conservator for professional cleaning.
