Birmingham 1924 Superb Large Solid Silver and Ivory Handled Presentation Trowel in the Original Wonderful Fitted Case.

1900 - 1920
Description

Birmingham 1924 English hallmarked solid silver presentation trowel made by Vaughton and Sons and having very crisply struck hallmarks. The heart shaped silver blade is beautifully engraved with foliate and leafy fan engraving. It is free from personalisation. The handle is crafted with wonderfully petal carved natural ivory, having a lovely patina and colour.

It is contained in the original gilt embellished leatherette satin and velvet lined fitted case bearing the retailer's label, for William Lund and Son jewellers from the famous Bond Street in London. It is rare to acquire one with its original case.

The amazing thing about this one is that it is unusually large and that both case and trowel are in such wonderful condition.

Size-Overall length is 12.75 inches long by 5 inches wide. The solid silver blade of the trowel measures 5 inches wide by 8 3/8 inches long alone, not including handle.

The overall dimensions of the case are 14 inches long by 6 inches wide

by 1.75 inches high.

Weight- 270 grams trowel only, and 795 grams total with case.

This lovely trowel in case appears as if it was never used. Originally used in the building trade to present at a topping out ceremony (never presented), it is also used today to serve cakes, pies and other desserts.

What a wonderful and most impressive piece, and a fabulous talking point to own or to give as a gift.

I have never seen another one of such impressive size, and in such condition.

Many other solid silver trowels with historical engravings, some including cases, are in stock, but not listed. I have only shown this one example. Please enquire for details and photos of others available.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
