Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Fiddle & Thread Canteen of Cutlery

19th century
Description

A wonderful set of antique Victorian sterling silver cutlery made in the fiddle and thread style for twelve persons by George Adams. It has been made to a high standard and remains in excellent condition. It consists of:

- 12 x table forks: 20.7 cms (8.1") in length

- 12 x dessert forks: 17.5 cms (6.9") in length

- 12 x table spoons: 22.2 cms (8.7") in length

- 12 x dessert spoons: 18.2 cms (7.2") in length

- 12 x teaspoons: 14.5 cms (5.7") in length

- 12 x table knives: 25 cms (9.8") in length

- 12 x dessert knives: 22.2 cms (8.7") in length

- 1 x basting (serving) spoon: 30.6 cms (12") in length

- 2 x sauce ladles: 18 cms (7.1") in length

This silver fiddle and thread cutlery set would be perfect to use and would grace any dining table. The fiddle and thread pattern tends to feel heavier in the hand than the plainer fiddle style and adds a little more detail. It sits neatly in a fitted mahogany canteen box which has been re-lined to make it look more presentable. The replacement silver handled knives with stainless steel blades are dated for 1994 and match the cutlery perfectly. There are 87 pieces in total.

Height of box: 22.5 cms (8.9")

Length of box: 44.5 cms (17.5")

Width of box: 32 cms (12.6")

Weight (without the knives): 131.7 troy ounces (4,097 grams)

This set was hallmarked in London between 1841 - 1875 by George Adams.

Complimentary postage is included within the price of this canteen of cutlery.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
