An Unusual Hallmarked Silver & Glass Matchbox Stand

A most unusual item of early 20th Century silver. This is a matchbox stand, with a hallmarked and weighted silver base. There is a frosted and cut support above to hold the open match box and a horizontal aperture to hold a lighted match for use with cigars, cigarettes etc.

The matchbox is silver plated and features a thistle to the front.

To use the box is lifted from the stand, the match is struck on the frosted support and placed in the aperture or handed round for use. An unusual and interesting piece. Dimensions below.
