This antique Turkish Oushak rug runner from circa 1920 displays a traditional geometric design executed in hand-knotted wool. The piece features a bright tomato red ground punctuated by prominent central medallions in shades of blue, green, and yellow, framed by a patterned border and finished with a hand-knotted fringe at the ends. The visible construction reveals an even pile with uniform wear consistent with its age, showcasing soft pile quality and bright tones throughout the motifs. Measuring 175 cm high, 72 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, this small-format furnishing textile brings warmth and pattern to hallways, entryways, or narrow transitional spaces in traditional home interiors.

Originating from the city of Usak in Western Anatolia, Oushak rugs have been woven since the XV century and are known for their distinctive geometric motifs and balanced composition.

Traditional Oushak runners are hand-knotted using wool pile on a wool or cotton foundation, coloured with natural vegetable dyes.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-knotted construction visible on the reverse side, slight variations in dye shades known as abrash, and soft, durable wool construction.

A vibrant wool runner provides grounding colour and geometric interest in entryways, corridors, or alongside a bed, complementing both period and contemporary decorative schemes.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotary brush, use a high-quality rug underlay to prevent slippage and wear, and consult a specialist for professional cleaning.
