Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sivas rugs originate from the city of Sivas in central Turkey, a key centre of weaving during the Ottoman Empire. These rugs are distinguished by fine knotting, floral arabesques, and central medallion designs influenced by classical Persian compositions and urban Ottoman workshops of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Traditional Sivas rugs are hand-knotted using high-quality wool pile tied onto a wool or cotton foundation. Craftsmen historically utilised natural vegetable dyes to achieve soft, subtle shades including muted terracottas, ivory, pale blues, and sage greens.

Authentic antique Sivas rugs feature a dense weave with a low, fine pile, a soft pastel colour palette, and precise floral or medallion patterns. Examination of the back reveals slight variations in the hand-tied knots and natural dye oxidation consistent with age.

The muted tones and intricate detail of a Sivas rug ground modern minimalist rooms or complement traditional schemes. Placing the rug beneath neutral seating or in a hallway creates a focal point that links wood tones and modern upholstery.

Vacuum gently without a rotating beater bar to prevent fibre pull. Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even foot traffic and light exposure, and clean spills immediately with cold water and a clean cloth or seek professional specialist rug cleaning.
