Huge Silver Plate Meat Dish and Cover

A huge silver plate meat dish and cover made for The Grand Hotel Leicester by Joseph Rodgers and Sons. The meat platter and cover are of traditional design but of the largest size I have seen. The feet and handles are beautifully modelled and cast in a Georgian design. The platter has a hot water aperture to keep the meat warm. The whole is in good condition with the odd mark and also plenty of knife marks where joints have been carved on the dish surface. The cover and platter both have the monogram of the Grand Hotel Leicester. The dish and cover are fully marked for Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Sheffield and were supplied to the hotel originally by T. Inglesant and Sons of Leicester. The Grand Hotel Leicester was built at the end of the Victorian period and is still one of the most impressive buildings in the city. This piece is of a fine quality and literally has a huge amount of decorative impact. C.1910.
