Attributed to Young and (William) Trotter

The unusual form may be distinctively Scottish, there is a similar, albeit earlier example attributed to Alexander Peter in the collection of Dumfries House (lot 313 in the Christie's catalogue of the sale that never was).

The base is pretty sophisticated, with elegant, elongated scroll spandrels, cast, solid brass sabots and veneers to the drawer-linings to conceal the dovetails. The secondary timbers are pine and ash.

I'm intimately familiar with this piece of furniture- (it was one of the 'rostrums' at Phillips/Bonhams and possibly Dowells auctioneers at 65 George Street, Edinburgh) and I relied on it over the course of many years to prop me up!

For film and whisky enthusiasts, this was used in the famous (!) auction scene of Ken Loach's award winning film 'The Angel's Share'.
