Description

A large landscape by British watercolourist James Stephen Gresley painted in 1884 and signed and dated bottom left. This extensive scene has a ruined abbey centre ground with a fisherman on the left bank and cattle on the right. A serene composition with the light touch associated with the artist. James Gresley mainly painted in Yorkshire and Derbyshire and was the first in a family line of artists. A book published in 2013 by Elizabeth Bailey: The Great Gresley, A Derbyshire Painting Dynasty. This lovely painting is housed in its original frame of fine gilded plasterwork . Dimensions including frame 91 x 117 x 4. Please note the shadow on the bottom left is light reflection and is NOT present on the painting or frame.
