In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The lid has a beautiful pomegranate and leaf finial.
The lid and base are engraved with small armorial crests. One is a hand holding a crescent moon and the other is a unicorn above a scroll with latin motto.
The quality is absolutely superb and it weighs approximately 2140g.
It is stamped on the base with four maker's marks for John Parker I & Edward Wakelin. The lid and base are also both engraved "No.2" and there is a stamped "2" on the lid. The base is also marked "75=11". There are no traditional hallmarks, only the maker's stamps but it has been tested as sterling silver. The makers mark is registered to London 1761 - 1774.
It is in excellent condition for its age. There are a few minor surface marks and signs of age and use but no major damages and it displays beautifully. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
