A fine quality Victorian silver-plated tray. The tray is wonderfully heavy and robust with a substantial gallery running around the edge. This type of gallery is often thought to indicate use onboard ship where trays needed to keep items stable as the ship rolled. The tray has elaborate engraving of swags and garlands to the surface while the overall shape and gallery are quite simple and refined with simple truncated corners and bun feet. The whole is in good antique condition with the odd minor blemish. The tray is marked for Jonathan Bell and son of Sheffield. This type of galleried tray in this size is quite rare and perfectly functional C.1890.
