Description

This is a fine example of an antique solid silver pepper pot, beautifully fashioned as a standing owl.

It is clearly hallmarked with the Dutch 2nd Standard Mark, the sword mark dating it pre-1905 and the Assay Office for Groningen, Holland.

The head, with glass eyes, is hinged and lifts to reveal a removable lid, the finial of which is a bird in flight, wings outstretched. The detailing on the body is very fine. There are a couple of small dents, almost matching, on his breast.
