Fine Victorian Cased Silver & Mother of Pearl Cake Knife Hallmarked Sheffield 1900 Allen & Darwin

A superb antique wedding cake knife in the original case. The knife has a lovely solid mother of pearl handle which completely compliments the silver blade. The blade is beautifully engraved and has a serrated edge. Clear, crisp hallmarks are visible on both the blade and the silver collar. The blade hallmarks are Sheffield with a date mark for 1909, along with the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and silver maker's mark for the silversmith: Allen & Darwin. There is a silver collar where the handle joins the blade with matching hallmarks, apart from the date which is 1896. (Note: Hallmark dates on cake knife collars and blades often differed as the collars where made separately

 

The knife comes in the attractive original black velvet and satin lined presentation case.

 

This is an exceptional cake knife and would be wonderful as a wedding gift, for use at a wedding or for any celebration cake. It is in super condition. As well as being exquisite, this item is also very practical!
