A Fabulous William IV Silver & Glass Butter Dish by the Barnard Brothers

An outstanding silver and glass butter dish from the last year of King William IV's reign. This superb piece has a frosted panel cut glass body with star cut base and twin locating 'lugs' for the lid. There is the original matching frosted glass under-plate, also with a cut star. The superior quality lid is engraved to match the cutting on the glass and has a beautifully modelled and fully cast figure of a cow. The figure is mounted on a disc, which is engraved with grass and flower details to represent a meadow. This wonderful example also has the distinction of being by one of the great names in 19th Century silver, the Barnard Family. A rare and usable item of silver and glass tableware.
