Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Paste jewellery refers to hand-cut glass stones formulated to simulate precious gemstones, gaining wide popularity in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. Cocktail rings are large, eye-catching rings designed to be worn at social gatherings, featuring central stones within elaborate decorative settings.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver or continental silver, featuring lead glass stones known as paste. Settings frequently incorporated bezel or prong mountings with millegrain edges, openwork scrolling, and foil backing placed behind stones to maximize light reflection.

Authentic examples usually feature purity stamps such as STERLING or 925 stamped on the inner band. Key details include hand-cut facets, delicate openwork metal crafting, foil-backed settings that show age-related patination, and minor surface wear characteristic of softer glass media.

A large silver cocktail ring functions as a single statement accessory alongside modern tailored suits or evening attire. Pairing the ring with neutral manicure shades and simple silver wristwear highlights the central purple paste stone without visual distraction.

Avoid submerging paste jewellery in liquid or ultrasonic cleaners, as moisture can penetrate the setting and discolour the foil backing behind the stones. Wipe metal surfaces gently using a soft dry microfibre cloth and store the item in a dry environment.
