A Most Impressive Elkington & Co Table Lamp

19th century
Description

A most impressive and large late 19th century table lamp base by Elkington and Co, A large corithinan column with cylindrical base, featuring beautiful repoussse decoration, depicting a Crimean War scene. The spreading base with a border of acanthus leaves. Stamped to the base with Elkington makers mark 1841 and letter L. The lamp retaining a wonderful patina, with wear commensurate with age and use; discreet solder repair to one section to the bottom of the Corinthian section. The bulb holder has been replaced and fully rewired in period style braided flex and PAT safety tested.

Provenance: Sir Andrew Barclay Walker, 1st Bt (1824-1893), Brewer, councillor, Lord Mayor of Liverpool and founder of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool
