Above the central columns depict the classical Greek figures of the three Graces who were according to Greek mythology the three beautiful daughters of Zeus and Eurynome. Their names were Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia. They were representative of beauty, charm and grace. They were frequently associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The candlesticks are finished with ornate foliate tops with lift out sconces. The fine casting has been finished by hand with chased detailing which shows the exceptional quality of their highly decorative pieces. French, circa 1860
