Description

Birmingham 1938 English hallmarked solid silver and cut glass whisky jug with hinged lid, also called a tot or noggin, meant for serving individual portions of whisky. Made by William Suckling Ltd of Albion Street in Birmingham, and complete with lovely hallmarked Birmingham 1936 solid silver whiskey tot label and chain made by the same makers.

Originating in Scotland, and used for "go to bed" sized servings, these are most sought after pieces for collectors and whisky aficionados.

With conical shape, star cut base, generous curved handle, and bulbous curve under silver lid, the glass body is classic and lovely, a very elegant design.

The hinged lid solid silver top has a beautifully curved and angled thumb catch.

A great gift for the whisky drinker perhaps accompanied by their favourite bottle, sure to be appreciated in the evening in the study or drawing room. Also, a lovely piece for the collector. Undamaged and complete examples with tot labels don't come along often.

Other compatible uses are for water, vinaigrette or cream.

Size-3 7/8 inches high without thumb catch or 4 3/8 inches high with thumb catch. 2.5 inch base diameter.

Weight-230 grams.

A lovely and unusual object in very good condition, and an excellent value.
