19th century
For Sale by Puckerings
Description

A stunning antique English lemon squeezer made from silver plate and fully marked on the underside for the well renowned silversmith, Henry Wilkinson & Co.

This example is rather special retaining it's original Victorian glass to collect the juice together with the original knife and spoon which sit to each side of the frame. Both have matching maker's marks to the frame; so a fully complete set, a rare find.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-to-late 19th century, specialized table service accessories became highly popular in Victorian dining and bar culture. Mechanical lemon squeezers were engineered to combine utilitarian function with ornate silver craft, providing juice for punches, cocktails, and tea service.

These items were typically constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver, paired with heavy blown or molded clear glass containers. The glass insert protected the metal from acidic degradation caused by fresh fruit juice.

Authentic pieces usually feature manufacturer makers marks, electroplate stamps (such as EPNS), or Victorian registry marks. The mechanical components, such as threaded screw presses and custom-fitted glass liners, exhibit heavy hand-finished construction typical of the period.

An antique mechanical squeezer serves as a historical focal point on a modern bar cart, sideboard, or cocktail cabinet. Displaying it alongside contemporary glass barware creates a sophisticated mix of antique craft and modern entertaining spaces.

Clean the silver frame using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish formulated for electroplated items to prevent stripping the silver layer. Hand wash the glass liner in lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding hot water to prevent thermal shock.
