Description

A wonderful example of a solid sterling silver-lidded pot pourri box, dating from the reign of George IV.

The lid is clearly hallmarked for London 1827, with the maker's mark of Archibald Douglas. The glass base has bevelled corners and is heavy and tactile. There are a couple of small knocks (just taking the frosting off the top rim) which is hardly surprising given its age. The silver top is heavy with a central grill and an empty cartouche.
