It was listed by The Silver Cabinet. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.
The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1891, with the maker's mark for Hilliard & Thomason.
They were the market leaders for many years and their design for the King, Queen and Jack are widely copied still. This may well have been a collaboration between the silversmiths and the card manufacturers which may explain why the board is stamped 'Patent' , although there is no patent number.
This heavy board stands squarely on 4 ball feet and is altogether fab!
