Antique Silver Toast Rack Birmingham 1891 by Hirons & Plante

An exceptionally fine solid silver toast rack.  Unusually designed with a lovely shaped handle, the rack has 4 compartments and sits nicely level on a good solid rectangular base, supported on four neat ball feet, all culminating in what is a most aesthetically pleasing item.  The compartments that fit the toast vary in width between 1.5cm and 2cm.  Made from good heavy gauge silver it feels a really nice weight when picked up by the handle.  Clearly defined hallmarks can be seen on the underneath  for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark of 1891 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the maker's marks for the silversmiths: Hirons & Plante.
