Derby porcelain refers to ceramics produced by the Derby porcelain factory in England, established in the mid-18th century. It became renowned for its high-quality paste, sophisticated enamelling, and exceptional botanical and figural painting.

These pieces are crafted from a fine-paste porcelain composition, typically shaped via moulding or throwing, and fired at high temperatures. They feature hand-applied polychrome enamel decorations and hand-gilded borders.

Authentic pieces often feature period-specific underglaze factory marks, hand-painted pattern numbers, and characteristic potting traits such as foot-rim wear, glaze crazing, and slight iron-spotting from historical kilns.

They can be mounted securely on walls as part of a curated gallery display, or showcased on specialist plate stands within cabinets or on mantelpieces to introduce historical pattern and colour.

Antique porcelain should always be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding soaking or abrasive materials. Display them away from direct sunlight to prevent fading of the hand-painted enamels and gilding.
