Very Tall Pair of Giltwood Candle Sticks C.1830

Description

Fabulous pair of early 19th.c. tall giltwood pricket candle sticks c.1830. Standing 44" tall plus a four inch iron pricket spike on top. Beautiful turned columns carved with Egyptian style column tops and anthemion motifs, raised on triangular plinths with carved paw feet. Retaining the original gilding, worn and rubbed through in places to reveal the red ground below. Designed to stand beside an altar, note how the rear of each column has been left uncarved and ungilded. Presented as found in original unrestored condition.
