Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pewter charger plate is a large, shallow platter popular in Europe from the Middle Ages through the 18th century, used as a decorative base plate during formal meals or displayed on dressers as a sign of household status.

Seventeenth-century pewter was an alloy primarily composed of tin with small additions of copper, lead, or antimony, cast into stone or metal moulds and turned on a lathe to create smooth rims and decorative reeded borders.

Authentic pieces typically feature distinct rim profilessuch as broad rims or triple reeded bordersalong with struck touchmarks, maker marks, or hall-marks, accompanied by natural surface oxidisation and wear consistent with age.

Pewter chargers can be positioned upright on plate stands atop a sideboard, arranged as part of a wall-hung grouping in a dining area, or placed in the centre of a table to hold dried botanical displays.

Preserve pewter by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical abrasives that strip the historical patina; gentle hand washing with mild soap and warm water is recommended only when necessary.
