The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

It is a large, hefty item, with a weighted, sealed base. The cushion is original and faded from its original vibrant purple colour and the velvet is worn in one area. The silver is damaged where the hallmarks were struck - possibly through over-enthusiastic cleaning. It is hallmarked for London 1895, with the maker's mark of James Deakin & Sons (John & William F Deakin).
