Rare Georgian Silver Lemon Strainer

A fine example of a Georgian silver lemon strainer. Lemon strainers were part of eighteenth-century tableware and are thought to have been used to strain lemons for punch bowls, they are very useful today as tea strainers. This example has one handle and a clip to hook the strainer over the edge of the punch bowl. The handle is beautifully shaped and the clip has been engraved with a ‘K’ most probably to represent the original owner’s surname. The bowl is finely pierced in a floral pattern and the whole is in excellent condition, just the odd minor knock around the rim. The piece retains a full set of hallmarks for London 1775, the makers mark is somewhat rubbed but looks to be Thomas Shepherd. A rare piece of period English silver in lovely untouched condition.
