It was listed by Corvidae Antique. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.
Corvidae Antique has dated this piece to the Georgian era.

Dating from c.1830, the brooch has a thin layer of gold covering the back and fixes with a steel pin.
The piece is in very good antique condition; a few of the tiny claws around the amethyst are missing but the stone is firmly set. This type of piece usually contains a central glazed compartment with a panel of tightly woven hair beneath, and the amethyst may be a later addition, although any conversion seems to have been made long ago.

Quality Georgian jewellery is becoming harder and harder to source with every year that passes so if you find a piece that you love, grab it while you can and safeguard a little piece of history!
Gemstones were usually foil-backed up till the mid-19th century to make them reflect the light better. Brilliant cut gemstones didn't appear until later and the old cuts didn't sparkle as much as modern stones so it gave them a little help. Practically, it just means you should keep them away from water to avoid it leaking behind the stones and damaging the foil - don't go swimming or do the washing-up in them!
Size: 2.9 x 2.6cm (just over an inch tall). The amethyst measures 1.7 x 1.2cm and the garnets are approx 4mm diameter.
Weight: 6.8g.
