Dealers note: This is without doubt, among the best quality desks I've ever had the pleasure of owning. The craftsmanship is absolutely top flight. Amongst them was the Turkish Ambassador, who was introduced to them by Lord Palmerston, the British Ambassador in Paris and the Emperor of Russia. They supplied many of Britains stately homes including Audley End, Essex: Burton Cobstable, Yorkshire; Hampton Court, Leominster; Hopetoun House, Lothian; Panshanger, Hertfordshire; Stafford House, London; Wynyard Park, Co.Durham and Broughton Hall, Yorkshire, to name but a few.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Partners desks originated in 18th-century Britain, designed specifically for banking partners, lawyers, or business associates who needed to work opposite one another at a shared workspace while maintaining individual storage.

These desks are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, dovetail joints in the drawers, and solid brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, secondary woods like pine or oak in drawer linings, aged patina on the leather, and traditional locking mechanisms with working brass keys.

A large antique desk serves as a commanding focal point in a study or home office, balancing traditional gravitas when paired with minimalist contemporary seating and understated lighting.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, periodically treating the leather with specialized conservation wax, and dusting with a dry, soft cloth.
