Description

Their previous owner could not resist this adorable pair of china owl oil lamps by William Whiteley (Circa 1900) when they saw them in the 1980's, and neither could we when they recently offered them to us. Their original glass eyes are in lovely condition, and on the underside of each you can find the companies printed makers marks. They can no longer be used as oil lamps, which is often the case, but we felt they are so decorative that their few imperfections could be overlooked - some minor discolouration and a very small indentation to the glazing on their bases, and old repairs and slight damage to the metalwork. Measurement - height of oil lamps when funnels are removed (24 cm).
