Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, brass metalware gained immense popularity due to industrial manufacturing advancements. Vessels of this nature were produced for both utilitarian uses, such as holding coal or firewood by the hearth, and decorative display as jardinieres for exotic plants in domestic interiors.

Traditional Victorian brass vessels were constructed using spun or hand-hammered sheet brass, supported by heavy cast brass mounts such as lion masks or claw feet. Bases were frequently reinforced with hand-driven rivets to withstand daily functional use.

Authentic 19th-century pieces generally exhibit visible construction marks, such as braised seams, hand-set rivets, and heavy cast fittings. Look for signs of age including natural interior oxidisation, light surface wear, and a distinct weight indicative of solid brass.

A substantial brass vessel functions well positioned on a fireplace hearth to store kindling or styled as an indoor planter for large foliage plants. The reflective metallic finish provides warm contrast against both painted cabinetry and natural timber background surfaces.

Clean surface dust with a soft microfibre cloth. To maintain a high shine, apply a specialized metal polish sparingly, whereas to preserve an aged patina, avoid abrasive cleaners and protect the surface with a light application of neutral microcrystalline wax.
