Rare Sterling Silver Presentation Military Goblet Cup 1911 166g Horse Guards ?

Description

A very interesting good sized English solid sterling silver military goblet. It hallmarked for Sheffield 1911 with the makers mark being that of Mappin & Webb. It has been superbly engraved with an inscription 'PRESENTED BY COLONEL VILLERS TO SERGT. E.H.McCann. FOR EFFICIENCY'. Colonel Villiers may be Charles Hyde Villiers who served in the Boer War and WWI, he had a connection to the Royal Horse Guards so perhaps this relates to that regiment although more research is required. It is in superb condition being free from significant dings splits distortions and repairs. It measures approx. 7 inches (17.7cms) tall by 3 inches (7.4cms) across the cup by 2.75 inches (7.3cms) across the base and weighs 166 grams. A high quality interesting piece.
