An Extremely Rare Hester Bateman Silver 'R Port' Label

An extremely rare late 18th Century silver wine label. This lovely and sought after cast silver example is of 'banner' shaped form with pierced foliar detail and a cartouche with engraved initials. Supported on a belcher chain, the label is engraved with Georgian 'pricked capitals', for 'R Port', which would have been Ruby Port and is very unusual. Made by the great Hester Bateman, it is a wonderful find for the collector and has a practical use. Dimensions below.
