Tom Scott Antiques has dated this piece to the 1930s.
I personally prefer old brass to show its age and use rather than over cleaning.

The lamp can be used as a desk lamp, but there is a adjustment bezel which lets you raise the height of the shade from 79cm anywhere up to 117cm, so it can work as a floor standard reading lamp too. The base has a good heavy weight to it, so it is very sturdy, but is finished with a charcoal grey baize so it won't scratch any surface you place it on.

You can also change the position of the shade itself so you can adjust this to suit.
The lamp has been fully rewired using a linen braided cord with a torpedo switch and will hold a standard bayonet bulb ( I have shown an LED B22 bulb in here, but you may want to use a candle shape or a filament bulb ).
