The Silver Squirrel has dated this piece to the 1890s.
I would date it to c1890. It has been beautifully made having an engine turned base , engraved lid, and internal gilding. The lid is decorated with a hand painted image of a lady holding a jug of wine with a bird drinking from the her cup - I suspect, by how she is dressed, that the painting is earlier than the box c1840. It is in superb condition with the silver being free from dings splits and repairs. The painting is also superb, the left side of the glass has some residue on the inside, this could be professionally removed. It measures almost 2.5 inches (6cms) across by 2 inches (5cms) by 0.75 inches (1.7cms) tall and weighs 52 grams. A superbly made very high quality piece.
