A Superb William Comyns Silver Pot Pouree Box

A gorgeous Edwardian silver pot pouree box, by the great William Comyns. This lovely piece is of circular shape with a pierced lid featuring a classical mask with wire-work starburst fretwork and a border of laurel leaves. The pull-off lid is fully hallmarked, along with the base. The sides have repousse ribbons and swags. Small pieces like this were used to scent cupboards or chests of drawers and were filled with violets, rose or other fragrant petals. They were also component parts of large travelling toiletry sets and are not easily found. A good collector's piece, both decorative and practical. Dimensions below.
