William IV Silver Vinaigrette in the Form of a Purse

Description

A delightful William IV period solid silver vinaigrette in the form of a purse by Gervase Wheeler, hallmarked Birmingham. The date letter is indistinguishable, however we would date this piece to circa 1830-1835. A pretty example with bright cut engraved decoration, with lid opening to reveal the gilt interior with, hinged grille, with original sponge still in place. In excellent overall condition; the only note is the chain/handle is detached from one side, but rests neatly on the clean break and appears unbroken, see photographs where we have moved it off the break to illustrate but fits back neatly without slipping as the wire handle is quite firm. This minor issue does not detract from this delightful rare example and they are rare to find with the original handle.
